Forget your sleeve and wear your heart on your head with this crochet heart beanie pattern.
Believe it or not, this beanie is made up entirely of single crochet stitches! Although it uses a basic stitch, you will not get bored crocheting this beauty. The colourwork makes this one of the funnest crochet accessories to stitch.
The pattern for the Lots of Love Crochet Heart Beanie is set out in writing below. In addition, a colour chart is provided should you prefer to follow that for the heart motif portion.
Pattern Notes
Construction
This crochet heart beanie pattern begins at the brim and then works its way up to the crown. There is no sewing required, aside from the pom pom should you decide to add one.
Colourwork
As you can see from the photos, I made this hat in two different colour sequences, white on wine and wine on white.
For the darker beanie, I carried the white along with me by stitching over it as I moved from one heart to the next. You can see this in the photo below. The white is not very visible on the right side of the completed beanie.
However, for the white beanie, I floated the darker yarn behind my work, catching it on every third stitch or so. You can see how I did this in the photo on the right hand side above.
The reason for this is that darker yarn is quite visible when carried behind light coloured yarn. Sometimes I actually like this effect! But for this beanie, I decided I wanted the wine colour to be a little bit less obvious behind the white.
Feel free to choose any method of carrying your yarn that you wish. If you do choose to float it, be sure not to pull too tightly as it will cause your hat to pucker.
Sizing

This pattern is written to fit a women’s size small/medium. It measure 19″ around (unstretched) and 8.5″ high.
The fit is quite snug but comfortable on my 22″ head.
In order to adjust this beanie for size, rows can be added or subtraced from the brim to increase or decrease the circumference.
Please note that if you do amend the length of the brim, you will need to to do so in multiples of 10 to keep the offset heart pattern even.
In addition, to increase or decrease the length or height of the beanie, rows can be added or removed in the body. This can be done either between the rows of hearts or above or below the heart motif rows.
To find the measurements for the size you require, you can refer to this great hat size chart from The Crochet Crowd to determine the measurements for the size you desire.
The Yarn
I chose to use Red Heart Soft for this crochet heart beanie. This yarn made the cut partly because I had it in my stash. But honestly, I always have it in my stash!
I find this yarn so soft and enjoyable to work with. The colours are beautiful and the yarn always maintains that beauty in the finished product.
Red Heart Soft is one of my go to yarns and I used it in the C2C Candy Cane Scarf and the Christmas Plaid Crochet Pillow Cover patterns as well.
You can grab some Red Heart Soft yarn at LoveCrafts. I am sure you will love it like I do!
The instructions below are for the white hat. However, you can use whatever colours your heart (wink, wink) desires.

Attach pom pom if desired.
